To Produce an Effective Radio News Release, Appeal to Radio Gatekeepers

Radio news releases (RNRs), also known as audio news releases, are 60-second, news style, broadcast-ready radio packages with a spokesperson sound bite. Your RNR can be produced by NBN within an hour and placed on radio stations in markets across the US in the same day, complete with scripting by an NBN senior broadcast correspondent, interview of your spokesperson by an NBN broadcast editor and voiceover by a broadcast journalist.

By thinking like radio station news directors, NBN's copywriters can make sure your RNR is concisely written and readily understood. Because radio is a local medium, we work to create a message-based release with local references incorporated whenever possible. And we understand our success in creating a successful RNR depends on the balance we achieve between news value and product branding; news-oriented RNRs with news that listeners can use will most appeal to radio gatekeepers.

Satellite Feeds and Direct Placements Deliver Guaranteed Airings

NBN distributes RNRs via satellite and custom placements.

Our daily satellite feed reaches more than 2,500 radio stations nationwide. The feed is a fixed afternoon window that's been carried on the main news channels of AP Radio Network and the Westwood One family of networks, exclusively, for over 25 years.

Your RNR is also distributed through two additional networks, the Business Talk Radio Network and the USA Radio Network, which together deliver guaranteed usage of approximately 380 broadcasts and more than 1.6 million listeners.

The satellite feed is augmented by direct station placements, via telephone or MP3 digital feeds, so your story's distribution is targeted to specific markets, top markets or regions, depending on your needs.

Thanks to national satellite distribution on all four networks, you can expect your RNR to produce at least 300 broadcasts and roughly three million AQH impressions. Custom placements will boost the usage rate far higher.

Keeping You Informed of Broadcast Results

To maximize usage, our media relations specialists conduct random sample phone surveys of those stations that accepted your story. Preliminary data is compiled in a flash report, using both Average Quarter Hour (AQH) and weekly cume totals, and e-mailed to you within 48 hours of distribution. About 10 days later, you'll receive a bound final report with a CD copy of your story.

Record Surge in Feed Volume Attests to Radio's Continuing Popularity

Fully 82,000 radio feeds of more than 100,000 feeds pitched by NBN in 2003 were accepted by radio stations. And in May 2004, more than 8,600 feeds were accepted, breaking an all-time company record.
